I like this picture and the

I like this picture and the comment, it shows exactly what is priority is.
It represents contrasting the western culture over third world coulture values.
I have know people who think that the most important thing in their life was
the latest fashion, no matter how much is was putting them into debt.
As if the choice over the lattest expensive thing was more important than
the least amount of resources in order to continue just living.

I'm sorry but that person is

I'm sorry but that person is wearing dyed clothing AND earrings... those both represent the third world equivalent of 'vanity purchases'!

so, for you to have to care,

so, for you to have to care, no one else can fall for the ideal of wanting pretty things like you do?

because they see the same crap shoved down their throat that you do, they any sympathy from first world corporations exploiting their society and resources?

the realer problem might be that you want to look away because you'd have to look inside yourself and what's in your heart towards others. it likely comes from the feeling and attitude in your heart towards yourself.

It's fine to look the other way when sh*t piles up in front of you that you supported indirectly. sooner or later, you will run out of directions to look in and then cry that your life is surrounded in sh*t.

you poor thing. let me buy you a handbag to help you feel better.

BS

Perhaps you're an idiot, I'm sorry.

The whole point of this

The whole point of this picture is to manipulate you into feeling bad about yourself. Normally this methodology is employed when someone wants to extract money from you, such as television evangelists. There is no relevance between the cost of his food and the cost of a handbag for you. What is relevant is that if you live in a first world country you spend about $100 a week on food, and so the price of the purse is not unreasonable. Or do you think that you spend $4/week on food too?

you realize that we spend

you realize that we spend 100 on food bc we get overcharged and we are fat greedy and not skinny as crap like her. u realize that 4 dollars a week would give her enough food to live. me spending 100 a week on whatever food i want and whatever looks good can not be compared. theres this thing called gluttony, and spending 100 a week on food probably ensues it.

the whole point of the picture can be taken different ways. yeah, it might make u feel bad about urself if u spend too much money on trivial things and realize that maybe theres someone else out there other than just you. but it also shows u the rediculous priorities we ahve as a first world country. 100 for a bag is rediculous and unreasonable. ur a dumbas* for thinking that paying 100 for a bag is reasonable.

I love you.

I love you.

Could that be the point?

I thought the person being decked out in material excess was to emphasize the point. Even in America, people spend so much chasing trends that their own children go hungry or malnourished. How much more so the needy that they never have to see?

Another (more far fetched) take on it is that most people getting off at Knightsbridge wouldn't take two seconds to read the sign unless the model on it was showing off 'vanity purchases'.

excuse me, but that is not a

excuse me, but that is not a "VANITY" expression in the western sense, you friggin turd. It's hardly the same.

Wow. You are really

Wow. You are really ignorant.
Before there was mass production, things were dyed and made by hand. Do you think she went to a department store to purchase the dyed garments? The mall to buy some bling? No. Of course not. These are hand-made goods. And you, my friend, are a man-made idiot.

+

You're a fucking moron

STFU before you open your mouth again.

Very Striking Photograph

The composure of the photograph really adds to the message.

Confuscious says...

Give a man (woman) a fish, feed him for a day, teach a woman how to fish, feed her for a lifetime.

Teach a woman how to fish,

Teach a woman how to fish, buy a river, make her fish all day long paying one penny for a day and export the fish to a first world country, and you got a pretty nice business.

Old sayings are cute, but reality sucks doesn't it?

Give a man a fish...

Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and he'll spend all day on a boat drinking beer with his mates.

We actually kinda took all

We actually kinda took all their fish... so there is nothing for them to fish ...

That is amazing casting

how did they find dhalsim to pose for this

Dhalsim

LMAO that's what I was thinking!

Dhalsim isn't African

Dhalsim is INDIAN - this guy is in Africa some where...

That is amazing casting

how did they find dhalsim to pose for this

she *loves* the cock.

she *loves* the cock.

So am I supposed to feel

So am I supposed to feel sorry? No matter how hard people try there will always be poverty. Should I feel guilty for buying a BMW or owning a Plasma TV? Hell no, I am not responsible for these peoples suffering. It is sad but the reality of it is there is nothing I can do. The government is to blame. I hate the trend of we need to help everyone in the world less fortunate. These people have suffered long before I was born and will continue long after I die.

That's the spirit!

Hat's off.

Your toys are made with

Your toys are made with their sweat. Every dollar you spend goes to support how a company mistreats another country's resources and people.

Trying to buy away your ignorance or guilt is no excuse. Things happen in cycles, remember your words when you're at the bottom of someone else's' totem pole.

The toy manufacturers insane profits to afford the marketing to have you believe that you can only stay feeling better about yourself by the things you own is the real cause of your outburst. Everyone's been hoodwinked now and gain.

Our toys provide them

Our toys provide them valuable jobs. You want to take jobs away from people who can't afford to lose them? You sound pretty evil to me.

They shouldn't need our toys.

Those jobs that pay so little should not have to be so valuable to them in the first place. You sound fairly ignorant to me, not to mention the fact that you are so desensitized to this that you will probably read this reply and brush it aside.

In my opinion, the evil one is yourself, who can see something like this, think about what it means and say to yourself, "the life of another [HUMAN BEING] doesn't matter to me because I can't [WON'T] do anything about it [NEVER MIND THE FACT THAT CHANGING YOUR WAY OF THINKING CAN HELP, ESPECIALLY IF everyone IS INVOLVED IN A CHANGE]."

Is that what Jesus would

Is that what Jesus would want you to say? your not responsible? Are you Christian?

Who cares what figments of

Who cares what figments of your imagination would say. - And no, I'm not Christian .. If I had my way, there would be a LOT more of the whole Christians vs. lions thing going on. We need to thin your overzealous herd.

So am I supposed to feel

So am I supposed to feel sorry?

Maybe it isn't about you. Maybe that's part of the point. And maybe next time you have and extra $50 or $100 around you can hop over to a microloan website or something and help somebody out a little. Odds are pretty good you'll even get paid back.

No matter how hard people

No matter how hard people try there will always be poverty.
-thats completely false. and i love how hard ur trying.

should u feel guilty. yes.

r u responsible? well.. if its the govts fault as u claim (which is a stupid excuse btw), u have to raelize that the ppl make up the govt. you are teh govt my friend. you are to blame. do something about it. bitch.

Your comment was so stupid

Your comment was so stupid and ignorant that I could not even begin to explain why. I realllllllly hope you never went to high school because if you did, it would make your education system look awful. You make a point for those people in the world against democracy. WE LET FOOLS LIKE YOU VOTE?!!?

large white bag

no woman should be seen with a bag bigger than her head.

#1. why is food cheaper

#1. why is food cheaper there than it is in the US? NOT FAIR
#2. is the handbag cheaper there as well? or is it EU handbag prices compared to african food prices, which results in a headspin...
#3. why does this person bring a seatbelt with her everywhere she goes?

It's all relative. So the

It's all relative. So the fact that it's SO much cheaper is reflective of their low incomes, that is if they HAVE any. But even if we did the calculation and converted their prices/incomes into ours, trust me on this, they have it a lot worse than you do.Their standard of living is much much lower than yours. NOT FAIIIR.

So, we're supposed to put

So, we're supposed to put off our own lives and give everything to those that don't have? Why not just teach them and actually enable them instead of giving them billions of dollars in cash aid? Or, we could just invade most of Africa. They have oil after all.

wooooah i hope you arent

wooooah i hope you arent serious about the invading comment.

Why not teach them and

Why not teach them and enable them ? Why, because the whole western economy is built upon having poor sods whose resources you can nick. If they were able to assert their right to the very land they're living on, our economy would crumble: no more cheap labor, no more cheap resources, ...

Only a change in our economic model can allow the poor nations of the world to get on their feet, and the world's resource be distributed fairly. That, however, also requires a change in the way consumer-pigs are thinking, and that won't be easy. In the mean time, the least you could do is help them out. What's 4 dollar per week for you ? Almost nothing. Yet by just eating a few bags of crisps less each month, you can keep someone alive. Is that really so much to ask of you ?

What, so instead of buying

What, so instead of buying the handbag and supporting the multiple stages of production involved, where the animal itself might have come from her village, we should just give them free money? what's that going to solve? what's she going to do next week, and the next?

It's hard to watch

The proof are your reactions, people. Thruth is we can't personally do anything significant about it. We do feel guilt but we understand this is not a problem of us as individuals but of our whole world society. We can't just change that although many of our best wishes are there. We do care.

The ad is wrong. As somebody said here, it is not us purchasing expensive things what creates poverty. We purchase expensive stuff we don't need mostly because of publicity, publicity made by the very agencies that later make campaigns about poverty.

What is wrong is not us, but the world order -and I'm not being an 'anarchist' here- I understand it is something that will not change soon. We can change it by minimum ammounts.

The only thing we can do is improve our awareness, our consciousness, as little as we can.

Compassion

No one is asking you to put your life on hold or even give more than you can. Take a look in your heart and think to yourself, maybe next time I don't get a large cappucino from starbucks, even if just once, and I donate the $5 to charity, whichever one it is. Maybe one of your family members has a sickness, donate to that research cause, maybe you yourself have been poor at a time, donate a gift or money or food to a family. Nuff said.

THE FACT of the matter is,

THE FACT of the matter is, is that the human racing is racing towards extinction by OVER POPULATION.

We ignore the laws set forth by NATURE, that dictate that population should be controlled by resources. Humans are NOT IMUNE.

If you live in the middle of the desert, and your race dies out because of this, it is the way it is supposed to be. Move out of this land where there are no resources. Do not stay there and cry, I feel no pity.

I may be crazy, but the only hope I see for man kind is EVOLUTION of the fittest.

You sir, have been rendered

You sir, have been rendered extinct by the spelling cops -- Immune has 2 M's.

you think africa is resource

you think africa is resource poor? some places in the world export the largest amount of coffee and are still some of the poorest nations.

Multiple messages

OK I get the point about how if we'll blow money on a handbag then we really ought also to be helping our less fortunate brothers and sisters with the basics. That much is obvious.

But what struck me as ironic was just how stylish and fashionable this 3rd world gal appears under that designer handbag. (Is it just me?)

The weird thing is, I don't know what to make of it. Does it mean I am so conditioned by our advertising-driven culture that my very experience of luxury versus poverty is delegated completely and totally to the masters of our media?

Or does it mean that because I've watched less than three hours of television the past decade, I have become so disconnected from our advertising-driven culture that I am able to see how this gal from another world really is attractive?

Or does it say something about how fashion itself has come full circle?

That bag...

That bag is awesome I simply must have it...

You coldhearted f**ks

Unbelieveable: 'not my problem', 'nothing i can do'. All of you who are blowing off the sentiment that the photo intends ought to be ashamed of yourselves. Instead of letting your subconscious guilt bring about knee-jerk defensiveness (i.e. 'no way am i giving up my BMW and plasma screen'), realize that it' not an either/or situation. It's just that, while your treating yourself, throw a little help to those that are less fortunate. Who cares about enabling/evolution/"oh look, she's wearing earings", when for a few bucks you could save a child's life. To paraphrase someone much smarter than myself: "A society can be judged by how it treats the least of its citizens."

Don't mind the kiddies. They

Don't mind the kiddies. They were born from ignorant parents and will grow up to be the same. They good thing is that Americans are eating themselves to death and sending their kids to die in wars that are not theirs. For every fat American that dies 100 Africans can eat. Let's hope for long and healthy lives for Africans.

This pic is turning my on. I

This pic is turning my on. I just finishd masterbating.

I love it !! mixed messages!!

I love it !! mixed messages. totally artisic photagrphy, that makes you think!!
she (he) is thin enough to be a model, all "it" (sorry) needs is, make up and photoshop, next cover of vouge. It screams the desparity of rich and poor. makes you think about what is culturally important (different ideas on what is style). Is that a fake that she made? (bag). It looks like she is wearing beautifull original jewlry (I think the dress and belt are also new).
